Simple answer is no. The camera can not jump down from the wall and stop the crime from happening. If CCTV is monitored 24/7 by security staff, there is little chance that the camera system will prevent crime. Typically camera systems are used only after the fact to determine what happened and try to identify the offender. The problem is very often people who have these camera systems installed in their society, feel that the camera system is a deterrent. If the camera systems was a deterrent then it would prevent the crime. Cameras are now virtually everywhere. Therefore, with cameras everywhere why does crime continue to rise? This is because the camera systems, do almost nothing to prevent it. Criminals understand the simple truth that most camera systems are very poor and often do not even work. They know that most likely no one is tracking or monitoring the live cameras so that he can commit the act and just go with little hope of being found later.

If the camera system can’t stop a thief, then what can be done? This issue is the company that installed the system. When is a good security company is used to design and install a camera system then the system can be used to determine what happened and who did it. This requires careful planning and good design in combination with good products, quality video, which produces usable forensic evidence. Good camera systems should try to identify the elements in the display, such as vehicle plates, vehicle types, facial recognition and so on. If the camera is only installed for the overall supervision it can tell what happened, but the specifications of the suspect would not be possible. Providing the police with as much detail about the event is your best chance to catch thieves.

A good camera system is one that gets used. Whatever the purpose of (general security, internal theft, workers compensation, or monitor the activities of employees), you or someone in your company is actively using the system. A camera system, which is unused or unchecked regardless of the quality and design is a poor system. If the system is used properly, all kinds of information all types of information can be obtained from it.

So even if a camera system, can’t stop crime, a good system that is carefully installed, can produce usable forensic evidence. This video evidence may lead to the identification and / or detention of a suspect or offender. Word spreads of the company’s high-quality video system. If this is the case, than other criminals looking to commit crimes against your business will find easier targets.
